4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

The season of spring may have arrived but in Buffalo it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been going for months striving to keep you and your family comfortable, so now is the time to show your furnace some love. If you hear abnormal noises or the heating system has stopped operating, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a severe gas smell, you almost surely need furnace repair work and you should call Sunbeam Service Experts immediately.

Before you decide that you need a furnace repair technician, review these tips from Sunbeam Service Experts.

  • Make sure your thermostat is set to “heat.”

It may sound obvious, but we are always running and life happens, so sometimes it’s easy to miss the simple fixes. Forgetting to change over the thermostat can make you assume you need furnace repair and installation when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

On the topic of switches, make sure your furnace switch is in the up, or “on” position. Like we said, an easy miss, especially when you remember this switch isn’t one you might look at routinely. Most furnaces have built-in delays so be patient when you turn your furnace on and give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about contacting our furnace repair man.

  • Swap your furnace air filter.

You should replace your home’s air filters around every three months to help your furnace run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for illness causing microbes and cause you and your children to become sick. Change your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy. You could also schedule yearly maintenance with Sunbeam and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your check up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the breaker that controls your furnace is in the middle position or the “off” position. If the breaker has ended up in the middle position, cycle the breaker to “off” and then reset it to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs can get pricey, so avoid a future issue altogether with ongoing maintenance from Sunbeam Service Experts. However, if you ever do need furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to help you with all your heating needs.
