When the Dallas-Fort Worth area Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to support the Walk MS events in North Dallas and Fort Worth, they wanted to offer an APCO to the event participants.
“Service Experts believed an APCO Air Purifier was the perfect product to auction off since this spring the company has been all about saving the air, and it helps eliminate germs and bacteria from indoor air that can aggravate allergies and respiratory problems,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck was the winner of the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when she bid the highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first discovered the APCO a few months before when she came across an article regarding the significance of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t think much about it at the time because I didn’t understand its compatibility with almost any heating and air conditioning system, and assumed it was another one of those “luxuries” that was beyond my budget. When it came up at the Walk MS event, they were talking about the seriousness of good indoor air quality for people suffering from MS and I just thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was 91 and had been living with COPD for over two decades. For the past four years he had been on oxygen constantly, 24/7/365.
“The allergens in the air aggravated him even though I constantly bought the more costly 3M Filtrate brand of air filters. They just weren’t helping. He repeatedly caught pneumonia but he had only left to go out over the past four years to see his doctors.”
The pneumonia meant Kim’s father spent no less than two months in the hospital and rehabilitation facility. In the time leading up to the Walk MS event in Dallas, Kim’s father had spent the majority of the month in the hospital and two days at the rehab facility recuperating from two strings of pneumonia. After seeing her father suffer so much, Kim said she was going to “roll the dice” and bid on the APCO, which had two great benefits: her dad would finally come home to “clean” air and all the money went to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was over the moon when she found out her bid had won and planned on calling to get the APCO installed in her father’s house before he was sent home from the rehab clinic. Regrettably, only three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father came home to hospice care and passed away peacefully just a few days later. The APCO arrived the week after he passed.
Kim chose to have the APCO installed in her own home since her husband has issues with allergies. A short time after it was inserted, she was cooking onions and realized she couldn’t smell any stenches once she finished. She’s happy to experience the long-term effects of her new APCO.
All of us here at Sunbeam Service Experts are keeping Kim and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
