Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a few things you can check yourself prior to calling Sunbeam Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters each month. If you do not, they can become clogged, restricting air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but verify the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating equipment will still not turn on, give Sunbeam Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 716-427-6807 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
